About the Program

The following is general info about UofL Honors (for specifics, see louisville.edu/honors). Students who demonstrate potential for high levels of achievement and seek a more engaging and challenging college experience find multiple opportunities for academic and personal development in the Honors Program at the University of Louisville. The Honors Program provides students with the best of both worlds in terms of college experience: the intimacy of a small college combined with the vast resources of a national research institution. With smaller classes that are more focused on reading, writing, and discussion, students benefit from greater academic rigor alongside more personalized support. In addition to small classes, the Honors Program affords students the opportunity to challenge themselves through research, study abroad, and experiential learning. Whether working side-by-side with faculty on cutting edge research projects, exploring international destinations, or serving the local community, Honors students have the chance to participate in unparalleled learning opportunities. Some classes include a service learning component. There is also Honors housing that may be available for NSE students.

Available Honors Courses

Honors sections of general education courses are offered each semester. These classes provide strong foundations for upper-level study, and meet requirements across colleges. Courses are offered in Accounting, Anthropology, Art, Art History, Biology, Chemistry, Communication, Economics, English, French, History, Humanities, Marketing, Mathematics, Music History, Political Science, Philosophy, Psychology, and Spanish. A current listing of courses can be found at: www.louisville.edu/honors. If Honors classes are closed, we will make a special effort to make a space for an NSE student. Honors Scholar Seminars are interdisciplinary courses open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. These seminars tend to focus on topics of immediate interest to students. Seminar topics change annually. Recent seminars have included topics on sustainability & mindfulness,personal creativity & innovation in business, crime during the Victorian era, exploring a variety of plays and their different interpretations, resiliency in child development, and punk music & politics. Enrollment is limited to 16 students.
