NOTABLE ACADEMICS PROGRAMS:
  • Business AdministrationUW-Superior’s Business Administration program has an excellent reputation for preparing students for success in a wide range of business careers. Our curriculum has been developed by experienced faculty members working collaboratively with a local advisory council. This business council is composed of industry leaders who share their expertise and personal connections to help identify and secure future opportunities for our students. As a business administration student, you will have flexibility to tailor your program to meet your needs and future goals. Students can choose from five different concentrations: Finance, International Business, Marketing, Management or Supply Chain Management.
  • Environmental ScienceUW-Superior’s environmental science major will provide you with excellent insight into the ways humans interact with land, water and air, and enable you to delve into some of the most pressing issues of our time. With our ideal location next to the largest freshwater lake in the world, the program emphasizes environmental issues of regional importance to the Lake Superior area. You will also benefit from access to forests, wetlands, lakes and other natural resources. The program is strongly interdisciplinary, with courses taught by faculty from four departments along with research scientists at the Lake Superior National Estuarine Research Reserve (LSNERR) and Lake Superior Research Institute (LSRI). You’ll have ample opportunities to participate in hands-on laboratory research, fieldwork, internships and paid student employment positions.
  • Multimedia JournalismThe multimedia journalism concentration emphasizes foundational journalistic skills such as writing, researching and interviewing for the dissemination of information across a spectrum of media platforms that require conceptualizing, producing and packaging stories. The knowledge and skills you will gain in this program are in high demand by a growing number of businesses, news and social media companies, nonprofit organizations and public agencies.
  • Social WorkAre you an individual that wants to help create society-level change? Are topics related to alcohol and drug addiction, poverty, homelessness, abuse and racial inequalities compelling issues that tug at your heart? If so, a major in social work may be a great fit. As a social worker, you can create policy programs, research social issues, ignite and support social movements, counsel people or connect them to needed social services. Whether you’re working directly with individuals or creating change through policy and advocacy, you can be part of creating a more just society where people thrive and have access to the support and resources they need through the social work profession.
UNIQUE ACADEMICS PROGRAMS:
  • Aquatic BiologyWith our campus near the shore of the world’s largest freshwater lake, UW-Superior is ideally located for the study of ecology and aquatic biology. Numerous opportunities for hands-on freshwater research await you and you will work with faculty who are leaders in the field and nationally renowned for their research in areas such as microplastics, toxicology, fisheries biology and more. With a small, supportive campus community, you will have opportunities to get to know professors and fellow students who share your passions and interests.
  • Art TherapyIn the classroom, you’ll learn how to use art materials and techniques to help improve people’s self-esteem, wellbeing and personal development. Through field work in the community, you’ll be introduced to organizations that work with people experiencing various illnesses, trauma or other life challenges. You will witness and participate in the application of art therapy practices through supervised, hands-on experiences. Additional courses in studio art, art history and psychology will challenge and enhance your discipline-specific skills and knowledge.
  • Criminal JusticeAs a student in one of the region’s only four-year undergraduate criminal justice programs, you’ll learn how to critically reflect on the complexities of crime and society’s response to it. You’ll examine the ways in which police, courts, corrections and victim services operate and relate to the larger political and social world. The criminal justice program at UW-Superior is offered as a concentration of our Legal Studies major. This intentional structure focuses on the importance of a strong legal background for students pursuing this degree. While criminology programs offered elsewhere focus on criminals’ psychological and sociological behaviors and motivations, criminal justice centers around established procedures and systems.
  • Public Leadership and ChangemakingHave you always wanted to influence change in your community or region but didn’t know where to start? Our Bachelor of Science in Public Leadership and Changemaking is an interdisciplinary program that will prepare you to engage diverse groups in developing solutions for complex issues within local, regional, national and global communities. This major is unique in the region, making graduates highly sought after by nonprofits, planning agencies, civic and public agencies, Tribal government entities and many more. The core courses for this major are taught by professors of political science, philosophy, Indigenous studies and social work, providing diverse perspectives and backgrounds from faculty with decades of experience.
  • Transportation & Logistics ManagementKnown as the "Degree that Delivers," our nationally recognized transportation and logistics management major is recognized as a leading program due to its numerous awards, industry-inspired curriculum and exceptional student outcomes. Our location on the doorstep of an international transportation hub provides access to all five modes of transportation: air, highway, rail, marine and pipeline.
