About This Campus

With our small class sizes, friendly community, rigorous academic programs, top-rated arts environment and a full range of applied learning opportunities, SUNY Potsdam is a great place to make your own path. Our campus is a little out of the way, but, honestly, we like it that way. Here in the shadow of the Adirondacks, it’s easy to get away from it all and focus on finding yourself.

Campus life is vibrant, and our students are crazy-involved. SUNY Potsdam has everything from brand-new laboratories, to award-winning theatres, plus a fully-stocked athletic complex to keep you busy. Just steps from the Quad are our residence halls, with everything from classic two-bed rooms, to townhouses with full kitchen suites. And you don’t have to go far for a change of scenery. SUNY Potsdam also has a park leading right up to the shores of the Raquette River, and our campus is just a short walk or bike ride away from historic downtown Potsdam.

Helpful Information

We love accepting NSE students! We are close to downtown Potsdam and love to support students' access to internships and volunteer opportunities. Students can live on or off campus. SUNY Potsdam boasts an awesome music school, and there is live music almost every day during the semester.

Fun facts:

We have a Makerspace that students can use for free 3D printing and textile/ yarn access.

We are about a one hour drive from Ottawa, and 90 minutes away from Quebec for any students looking to practice their French.

We our campus exists on Haudenosaunee land, and the Akwesasne tribe nearby is an awesome community with lots of cultural and environmental resources.

SUNY Potsdam has the highest ratio of LGBTQ students in the SUNY System! Small campus, big pride.

Location Information

New York’s North Country region is bordered by the Adirondack Mountains to the south and the Thousand Islands to the north, all along the Canadian border. Potsdam, N.Y., is a classic college town, located in a setting filled with forests and farmland.

Our students and faculty love exploring the many trails a short walk or drive from campus, taking in views of our rivers, waterfalls and nearby mountain panoramas. The fall foliage is unforgettable. Our winters are pretty legendary, too… but we embrace the cold. It makes the spring that much sweeter.

Looking for a day trip? The Village of Potsdam is located within driving distance of Ottawa, Ontario; Montréal, Québec; Burlington, Vt.; Lake Placid, N.Y., and Syracuse, N.Y.
