About This Campus
UPRM is the only Hispanic land-grant and sea-grant within the US that operates in a subtropical environment. UPRM enrolls over 11,000 students on its campus which occupies nearly 300 acres between hills and gardens with exotic and native plants. The campus offers 54 baccalaureate programs, 42 masters and 8 doctoral options through the Colleges of Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Business Administration and Arts and Sciences. UPRM has been fully accredited since 1946 by the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges. All of its engineering programs are ABET accredited. The UPRM library has the best collection of scientific, technical books in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Location Information
Mayagüez is located in the west coast of Puerto Rico. Mayagüez is known as "La Sultana del Oeste" (the sultana of the West). Originally named "Our Lady of the Candelaria of Mayagüez", but dwindling tradition from the Indian name of its river, the Yagüez River (the word means "clear waters") the city was eventually named just Mayagüez. Today, Mayagüez is the fifth-largest city and is considered one of the most important cities in the island.

- Engineering — The College is also the largest of its kind in Puerto Rico. It is the first producer of Hispanic engineers in the United States of America, according to the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). Our long established undergraduate engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

- Geology — Our department is the largest research and teaching earth science department in the Caribbean region.
