About This Campus
Southern University is an Historically Black, 1890 land-grant institution with a multicultural student body of about 8,000 students. Students come from most US states and about 5 foreign countries. SU's 512 acre campus is lovely and overlooks the Mississippi River. It is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and has numerous program accreditations including computer science, chemistry, engineering, education, social work, and music, including jazz. The University has Centers for Energy and Environmental Studies, Small Farm Research, Social Research, and International Development. Its sports and music programs have received international recognition.

Helpful Information
It is easy to enroll in courses, placement is usually easy. There are only a few buses serving the city. The students need to plan 1-2 hrs. per trip.
Location Information
Baton Rouge, Louisiana's capital city, is the heart of the State's governmental activities. It is a major inland port city on the Mississippi River. Baton Rouge is 80 miles from New Orleans, two hours from the Gulf Coast, and five hours from Houston, TX. North Baton Rouge, about 5 minutes from the airport. The campus location is on Scott's Bluff overlooking the Mississippi River in the northern section of the City of Baton Rouge. The campus encompasses 512 acres.
