Helpful Information

Exchange students are assigned to an academic advisor in the department of primary interest who will help them register for classes. The NSE coordinator will also help with advising and with adjusting to campus life. All townhouses and apartments have kitchens and students can also opt for one of our meal plans. The Student Union and Brookens Library provide spaces for individual or group study. There are also over 80 student clubs and organizations and recreation center.

Access to internationally-renowned historical sites like the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, the Lincoln Home National Historic Site, the 1908 Springfield Race Riot National Monument, and Frank Lloyd Wright's Dana-Thomas House, among others.
  • Legal StudiesStudents learn how the legal system works, how it interrelations with social change, and how it can be used to help people assert their rights. Notable engagement opportunities include: Mock Trial, Pre-Law Center, Illinois Innocence Project, and UIS Pre Law Society.
UNIQUE ACADEMICS PROGRAMS:
  • African-American StudiesUIS currently offers African American Studies as an undergraduate minor. The program provides interdisciplinary examinations of the directions and trends of African American culture from the arrival of the first Africans to the shores of North America. In addition, the program explores the culture and history of African civilization and society and examines the African Diaspora in Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East.
  • Child Advocacy StudiesThe CAST (Child Advocacy Studies) minor was created as a collaborative approach to training and educating front line professionals and the next generation of child welfare practitioners.
