About This Campus
Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) was founded in 1887 as the State Normal College for Colored Students and began with fifteen students and two instructors. Located on the highest hill in Tallahassee, FAMU is the only historically Black university in Florida’s State University System and an 1890 land-grant institution. The University is committed to student-centered learning, academic excellence, and preparing graduates to apply knowledge, critical thinking, and creativity in service to society.
