About This Campus
Florida International University is located in Miami, which has become a dynamic center of commerce, culture, and tourism. Greater Miami offers cultural and recreational activities including The New World Symphony, The Miami City Ballet, and professional sports teams in basketball, football, baseball, and hockey. A few miles to the west of the city are the Everglades and to the south the Florida Keys. Terrific swimming, snorkeling, diving, and fishing are just a 30 minute drive from Miami. The city's multi-ethnic population provides the opportunity to become acquainted with many cultures, especially those from Latin America and the Caribbean. The University opened its doors to 5667 students in 1972. Today, the University boasts over 54,000 students. With its international focus, the University offers more than 200 bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs in 12 colleges and schools, including a fully accredited college of law and a college of Medicine.

Location Information
FIU has two campuses, the 344-acre Modesto A. Maidique campus in western Miami, including a neighboring 40-acre Engineering center, and the 200-acre Biscayne Bay campus in Northeastern Miami. The MM campus and BB campuses are a 50 minutes' drive in distance. FIU offers free shuttle transportation in between the two campuses. On-campus housing is located at the MM campus. It is strongly recommended that students have reliable vehicle transportation within Miami, especially if living off campus.

CLOSED PROGRAMS:
Architecture/Interior design/Landscape architecture, Dietetics & Nutrition, Mass communication/Journalism/Public Relations/Advertising, Digital Media Studies, Health Service Administration, Accounting, and Nursing. Academic certificates cannot be awarded to exchange students.
RESTRICTED/LIMITED PROGRAMS:
Business, biology, chemistry, music, theater, social work, education, economics, civil engineering, and environmental engineering courses are difficult to guarantee. They will require proof of prerequisites and/or equivalency verification. Biology/life science, chemistry, civil & environmental engineering courses will require syllabus (translated in English) for all prerequisites completed at another institution. Civil & environmental engineering courses may have reserved spaces for our degree-seeking students. Art, photography, music, theater, & graphic design courses have limited enrollment access.
OTHER ACADEMIC INFORMATION:
Students should maintain flexible course options, as enrollment in specific courses cannot be guaranteed. Students cannot enroll in closed classes, meaning those classes have already reached maximum capacity. Students are strongly advised to enroll during priority enrollment period.

- Hospitality Management — Our Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management has been distinguished as one of the top hospitality programs in the United States. Ranked #4 U.S. public hospitality school (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025 U.S. Public Rankings). The campus sits in one of the most strategic locations for any hospitality management school. South Florida is one of the leading centers for international tourism in the nation. Student access to living-lab resources, employment, innovative concepts, and exposure to the extensive diversity within the industry is unmatched. - Marine Biology — Our interdisciplinary program offers Students the opportunity to take classes on both campuses, online and at our unique facilities throughout South Florida as well as work across a variety of disciplines on marine-related research and education. We foster collaboration by integrating researchers and students from the Medina Aquarius Program, Global FinPrint, the Tropical Conservation Institute, the International Center for Tropical Botany, and the Florida Coastal Everglades Long Term Ecological Research Program.

The Bayview Housing is at the Biscayne Bay Campus. Off-campus Housing contracts are typically annual-long contracts. Single-term exchange students are strongly advised to review cancellation policies & conditions.
