About This Campus

Inter-American University of Puerto Rico in Barranquitas is located on 45 acres of lush tropical gardens nestled amid steep hills in the central mountainous region of Puerto Rico. Our mission is to help students achieve their academic goals while serving the communities of the central east part of the Island. Students participate in curricular and extracurricular activities such as academic conferences, laboratory experiments, field work, skills application in real-life scenarios. Also, our students get involve in cultural and interdisciplinary dynamics that integrate the in and outer community. In addition, students participate in projects that, for example, promotes agricultural sustainability of the area and economic growth through entrepreneurial workshops and business plan development. Inter-Barranquitas invites you to take advantage of this opportunity and experience, not only our academic offerings, but also our contributions to the communities and a connection with nature.

Location Information

Barranquitas' Campus is situated on the outskirts of the small rural town of Barranquitas, population 29,000, the campus is a 90-minute drive from the capital city of San Juan. Renowned for its cool climate and the hospitality of its people. This picturesque town has several small museums, stately homes, and sights of cultural, natural, and historical interest.

Helpful Information

Spanish proficiency is not required for our Sciences programs. Students must demonstrate Spanish language proficiency on their home campus prior to placement for our other programs.

Academics

Students must demonstrate Spanish language proficiency though an interview with the NSE coordinator of the Host Campus prior to placement.

Notable Academic Programs

  • Biotechnology - In this program students work on several projects ranging from marine biotechnology to agricultural biotechnology and will utilize several cutting-edge techniques like next generation sequencing, scanning electron microscopy, ICP, Flow Cytometer, Real time PCR, molecular biology techniques, among others. Also, students participate in field trips to collect samples for their research projects which, in addition, allows then to experience and learn about ecosystems, biodiversity, and environmental protection.
  • Criminal Justice - The program focuses on Puerto Rico’s Criminal Justice System and integrates the federal components that rules local criminal procedures, from Constitutional Rights to Jurisprudences. We include social sciences approaches to understand people’s deviant and criminal behavior as well as the means to prevent crime and rehabilitate those who were unlawful. As part of the program we do extracurricular activities such as a visits to Criminal Court Room to observe criminal proceedings, go to the interior of a Correctional facility, and socialize with participants of community-based rehabilitation programs.
  • Business Administration
  • Nursing - Our mission is the formation of nurses to offer competent, sensible, effective, safe, and quality nursing care to clients, family, and community. The Program aims to provide care with autonomy and with interdisciplinary collaboration and sensitivity to ethical-legal and cultural values and directed to the achievement of the best results for the client. Also, coordinate care by applying leadership and management skills that lead to the highest quality care with the minimum of cost. Our Program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Culinary Arts - We prepare students in our high-quality laboratories, to become professionals in the areas of hotels industry and as well as food and beverage services. Our faculty guide students to learn and develop current practices in the areas of Culinary Arts, Bakery and Industrial Confectionery. Our program includes courses focused on Restaurant Administration to inspire and give tools for those students interested in becoming Entrepreneurs.
