- Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts - The CECA at Austin Peay State University is the only Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts in the state of TN and brings both emerging and prominent artists from around the nation to Clarksville each year to present concerts and lectures, work directly with students in master classes and workshops, and introduce innovative ways of making and exploring the creative arts, including visual and graphic arts, music, and literature. CECA offers over 100 events per year featuring more than 75 guest artists. In addition to the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts, APSU received an endowment in 1985 from country music legend Roy Acuff to enrich the arts community at APSU and in Clarksville Montgomery County. The result was the Roy Acuff Chair of Excellence, which brings regionally and nationally acclaimed artists to APSU to share their expertise with students and the community in a dynamic atmosphere of unrestricted experimentation. The Acuff Chair rotates between APSU's four creative arts areas—Art + Design, Creative Writing, Music, Theatre & Dance—and has been filled each year with residencies by nationally and internationally known artists since its inception.
