This program emphasizes the development of hypotheses and the implementation of ecological research. You will obtain practical experience with organismal identification, ecological techniques such as point counts, density estimates, and population health, and sampling methodologies during a major field trip. In addition, a research project will promote hypothesis conception, further research techniques, data analysis, presentation, and discussion skills. Students will be asked to participate in discussions throughout the course. Learning Objectives: -Identify a wide variety of organisms including mammals, birds, reptiles, invertebrates, and plants. -Understand the basic physical, ecological, and social forces structuring biotic communities in the study area. -Develop skills related to designing and implementing ecological field studies. -Understand the techniques used to sample natural communities and assess organismal response to environmental variation.
