The program takes place at the Taylor Wilderness Research Station in the heart of the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness & at the McCall Field Campus along the shores of Payette Lake. Students enroll in classes that take advantage of Idaho’s wilderness setting and develop a foundation in the unique ecology, geology and natural history of the Rocky Mountain ecosystems. UI profs teach Ecology, Principles of Sustainability, Environmental History & Writing, & Outdoor Leadership.
Costs: **Limited home pay placements available. *Unlimited host pay placements available. Room, board and transportation: $4,000 Field trip fees: $450. Fees are subject to change. Participants must supply personal gear (cost varies). All participants must also provide their own medical insurance while enrolled in Semester In The Wild.

Requirements: 1) Written statement showing a strong interest/experience in one or some combination of science, environmental writing, natural resources, and outdoor pursuits. It will also demonstrate an understanding/experience of outdoor/wilderness living. 2) Strong letters of recommendation demonstrating knowledge of the student’s academic abilities and potential for living and learning in outdoor/wilderness setting. 3) Resume reflecting interests and experiences that are congruent with the spirit, goals.Costs: **Limited home pay placements available. *Unlimited host pay placements available.
