Sitka stands as a stronghold for the Alaskan fisheries and aquaculture industries, making it an ideal location to embark on a career path in marine science. Amidst breathtaking wildlife and biodiversity, students acquire a deep understanding of various facets of Alaska aquaculture. Field trips to streams and hatcheries provide comprehensive insights into fish biology and stock enhancement techniques. Interactions with shellfish farmers expose students to potential careers in ocean farming, and within the program, students actively manage their own seaweed hatchery at the UAS-Sitka mariculture lab.
Costs: Estimated costs: Tuition and fees: $4334, housing $2000, and meals and incidentals $2000. This does not include travel costs to and from Sitka. Scholarships are available to NSE students. UAS Sitka staff will assist you in determining your eligibility and navigating the application process

Requirements: Mid-March is the deadline for priority consideration followed by open enrollment until filled - 12 participants maximum. An individual consultation with the Alaskan Aquaculture Semester faculty is the best way to determine if the program is right for you. To set this up, please review the website and then complete a brief Aquaculture Semester Interest Form to help us know a little more about you. Access Types:
- Direct: student may apply and go directly to the program site from the home campus if approved
- Competitive: not all eligible applicants will have the opportunity to participate
- Open: open to all eligible applicants who meet stated deadlines
